Our school operates on four principles:
Self-directed learning: We believe that children are inherently motivated to learn. Students will discover what they are passionate about and enjoy doing, and will be able to learn what they choose, when and how they choose. Students take ownership of their learning with support from staff members and peers of all ages. Students’ choices will reflect their individual wants and needs, and be guided by their desire to live a fulfilling life.
Age-mixing: Students of all ages are free to interact and learn from each other as they please. Children learn exceptionally well from each other, especially students of different age and skill level. Age-mixing builds strong, multiyear relationships that help develop trust and increases opportunities to learn from others who share your skills and understanding of a topic.
Experiential and connected learning: Learning happens through doing and making - play, art, music, research, building, cooking, coding, and much more. All will occur in a flexible environment with indoor and outdoor spaces for different types of learning and activities.
Democratic decision-making and community: Our school is a participatory democratic community where students have an equal voice in the decision making of the school and their learning. Every member of the school community can vote on matters pertaining to the school and students take responsibility through leadership positions on committees that manage aspects of the school.
